+ JUST SPELL IT OUT FOR ME MAN - WHAT IS SNAP LIGHTING?

Snap Lighting is essentially an interchangeable lighting system that lets you change entire light fittings with one hand, without tools, in about 5 seconds.

The system is made up of a recessed socket, and a large range of compatible light fittings. The recessed socket needs to be installed by an electrician or handyman in a very similar way to a recessed downlight.

Once the socket is installed, you never need an electrician again. Simply push to install, or push to remove entire light fittings - simply, swiftly and safely.

+ WHY SHOULD I GET SNAP LIGHTING INSTEAD OF NORMAL LIGHT FITTINGS?

So many reasons!

  1. The initial purchase and installation costs are the same as normal light fittings. Sometimes cheaper!
  2. So quick, easy and inexpensive to keep your lighting style on-trend
  3. No commitment pressure. If you get conventional light fittings installed and change your mind, guess what? You're up for more electrician cost and hassle. But with Snap Lighting, you can change in seconds with just one hand!
  4. Freedom to change your lighting temporarily for parties, painting, renovating, selling... the list goes on...
  5. Super quick and easy to change a blown downlight (after many years of reliable performance of course!)
  6. Get the pendant height just right with tool-free height adjustment
  7. No more electrician costs and hassle ever again. Save up to $810 each time you change your lights! (See analysis here for more details)
  8. No more risking life and limb trying to install conventional fittings yourself - do it safely with Snap Lighting
  9. No risk! If you don't want Snap Lighting any more for whatever reason, it can be replaced just like any light fitting. It would be like you never had Snap Lighting in the first place!

There's no downside! So maybe a better question is - why wouldn't you get Snap Lighting?

+ WHERE CAN I GET SNAP LIGHTING?

We are aiming to have Snap Lighting available mid 2019. Our range will be available online, and in the stores of our retail partners.

+ IS SNAP LIGHTING AVAILABLE NOW?

Not yet, we are aiming to have Snap Lighting available for delivery mid 2019.

+ I'M BUILDING/RENOVATING NOW. WHAT CAN I DO TO BE SNAP LIGHTING READY?

Firstly congratulations and good luck! Since Snap Lighting is not yet available, we suggest putting 90mm LED downlights (with 90mm hole cutout size) wherever you think you might like Snap Lighting. Then when it's available you can simply remove the downlights and replace with Snap Lighting sockets in the same holes. Simple!

We also recommend joining our newsletter to make sure you are first to know when Snap Lighting becomes available. Plus you'll get exclusive offers and discounts!

+ WHICH COUNTRIES WILL SNAP LIGHTING BE AVAILABLE IN?

We are initially launching in Australia. Shortly after we will look at USA, Canada, UK, New Zealand and most of Europe. Be first to know when it's available by joining our newsletter!

+ CAN I BUY NORMAL LIGHTS ANYWHERE AND USE WITH SNAP LIGHTING?

Yes and no.

Let's start with 'no' - The Snap Lighting system includes a recessed socket, and a large range of compatible fittings. The socket and the fittings have a special connector that makes them super quick, easy and safe to use. Conventional (normal) light fittings do not have this connector, and therefore cannot connect with Snap Lighting. So to experience the benefits of Snap Lighting, you need to purchase light fittings that already have the Snap Lighting connector fitted - either from us or from our retail partners.

The answer could become 'yes' - We are considering a service where conventional (normal) pendant light fittings can be purchased from just about anywhere, then we provide the Snap Lighting connector that can be retrofitted making the light fittings compatible with our system. We are working through the practical and legal implications of this idea. Join our newsletter and we'll keep you posted.

+ DOES SNAP LIGHTING WORK WITH MY CURRENT LIGHTS/DOWNLIGHTS?

Unfortunately no. Snap Lighting products (including our range of downlights) are only compatible with Snap Lighting sockets.

There is no such thing as a standard downlight housing (they're all different), so it would be impossible to make a lighting product that would fit all the different types. Not to mention typical downlights can't support any weight!

So we're creating a new standard - Snap Lighting. Snap Lighting products (downlights, pendants, spotlights, etc) are only compatible with Snap Lighting sockets. The sockets can be installed in a standard 90mm ceiling cut-out, and for US/CA customers, sockets can be installed into standard 4" and 6" recessed cans.

+ CAN I ONLY BUY LIGHTS FROM YOU? WHAT IF I DON'T LIKE YOUR RANGE?

Initially, yes, you will need to buy light fittings from us that have the Snap Lighting connector installed. But we are in discussions with wholesalers and retailers who are looking at integrating Snap Lighting with their extensive ranges.

Also as mentioned above we are looking at a way to make any light adaptable. See more in the question "CAN I BUY NORMAL LIGHTS ANYWHERE AND USE WITH SNAP LIGHTING?"

With all that said, if you've got Snap Lighting and you want to change to something that isn't in our range, you can just pay an electrician and get the ones you want! It would be like you never had Snap Lighting in the first place. You haven't lost anything. There's no downside or risk!

+ IS SNAP LIGHTING SAFE?

Yes - completely safe. In fact, using Snap Lighting is safer than changing a light bulb! You can have Snap Lighting powered up, put your hand inside and poke around without any worries whatsoever. It has been tested and assessed by TUV Rheinland and been shown to comply with or exceed IEC international safety standards. The production units will have all necessary C-Tick and SAA approvals.

+ HOW IS SNAP LIGHTING INSTALLED?

Snap Lighting sockets can be installed in standard 90mm ceiling cut-outs, and for US/CA customers, sockets can be installed into standard 4" and 6" recessed cans.

The sockets install in a very similar way to recessed downlights. Spring fingers are folded back before being pushed into the ceiling cutout. Then 2 screws are tightened that give the socket its weight-bearing qualities.

The sockets have power cables with 3 prong plugs (or other country-specific connectors) so they can simply plug into outlets in your ceiling space, or an electrician can hardwire them.

Once installed, you never need an electrician again. Simply push to install, or push to remove entire light fittings - simply, swiftly and safely.
